Show and go, go, go!

When April rolls round it’s ‘chocs away’ for the GA industry show season! And this year it was no different… Germany, London then Popham, we’ve got it covered! Check out our reports, videos and spectacular photos for yourself…

April was a mega busy month for the General Aviation industry in general – and for us at FLYER, in particular. It kicked off with the US event Sun ‘n Fun in Florida, USA, then the industry decamped to Friedrichshafen in Germany for AERO.

That was followed by Pilot Careers Live, our event for would-be commercial pilots, in London and then just a few days before this issue went live, we were at the Microlight Trade Fair at Popham Airfield.

We spent the best part of a week involved with AERO. It’s an event we look forward to every year for several reasons.

Friedrichshafen is right by Lake Constance (called Bodensee locally) and in a very attractive part of southern Germany. It’s a joy to visit even though we have long days working at the show.

We also get to catch up with the General Aviation (GA) industry, many of whom are friends these days. It’s a fact that almost everyone you meet in GA is an enthusiast as well as a professional doing their job. Talk to almost any GA engineer or company boss and they enjoy their work immensely, are very proud of their products and the people they work with. They ooze enthusiasm!

So it’s no surprise that we have produced a huge amount of content, both on the website as words and still photos, but also as videos on our YouTube channel. There is just so much to see and talk about at AERO that it’s almost impossible to cover it all… but we’ve given it our best shot – so we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

If you follow this link it will take you to all the AERO 2023 content on our website, or you can read it in the magazine pdf  – and there’s plenty to enjoy!

This link here will take you to all the videos we shot at AERO Friedrichshafen – and there’s more being added as I write.

Back home in the UK, Ed Hicks and myself went to the Microlight Trade Fair at Popham on the weekend of 29-30 April, an event that just gets better every year. The combination of the Popham Airfield team and the microlight companies – and gyrocopters too – makes for a very well organised event with a relaxed vibe. And a big shout out to the airside marshalling team in particular, in making a busy event look straightforward.

Our report from Popham is entirely on video this year and you can watch it here.
