Final day for objections to Plaistows Airfield planning nightmare

+VIDEO Today, 30 June, is the final day for objections to a planning application to create a solar farm adjacent to Plaistows Airfield, near St Albans.

The plan was first mooted a year ago, was revised and has returned. The airfield operators object to the solar farm for several reasons but the main one is that it would compromise safety.

Microlight pilot Giles Fowler has produced this video summing up the problem:

The British Microlight Aircraft Association (BMAA) said, “This would have a massive effect upon the safe operation at Plaistows, mainly due to the loss of safe landing options following an engine failure on approach or after take-off.

“Other factors affecting safety are glint and glare, thermal plumes and increased low level turbulence.”

The BMAA is urging pilots to lodge an objection through the planning portal comment system. The application is 5/2025/1132. Click here to object.
