Hangar Homes on Enniskillen Aeropark has finally been giving the green light by the local planners and a unaniminous vote in favour by councillors.
It’s taken Peter Day ten years of trying to get the concept of Hangar Homes and mixed-use hangars – commercial and residential use – adopted in the UK. That includes seven years working on Enniskillen Aeropark.
“Interestingly, there were no objections from the CAA regarding safety and security,” said Peter, “or the airport operator who can see that this will help to safeguard the airport and make it more sustainable.
“Plus, [the Aeropark would] attract more visitors. Indeed, the local residents regard additional noise and road traffic as minimal.
“Not only will this development be a ‘game-changer’ for Enniskillen, but it will start the ball rolling with Aeroparks on other General Aviation airports for solely residential Hangar Homes or mixed-use hangars for businesses.”
Peter is continuing to try to have mixed-use hangars approved at Solent Airport.
He added, “If you are interested in being one of the first owners of a Hangar Home in the UK, which could also generate considerable income from short-term rentals to other pilots, please let me know and I will keep you informed on costs and timescales.”
