Competitors will take to the skies this weekend (25/26 August) for the AERO GP Constanta Challenge in Constanta, Romania. AERO GP, the international air race series which features multiple aircraft racing simultaneously at close quarters, has announced a ‘hugely talented’ international line-up of competitors, all looking to win this first stage in their pursuit to be crowned ‘World Champion Flying Ace’, including two of Britain’s leading pilots, Andy Bickmore and Gerald Cooper.

AERO GP races are unique in the world of motor sport with pilots competing over three disciplines – air racing, air-to-air combat and target bombing.

The five competitors involved are: Zoltan “Red Phantom” Veres, a household name in Hungary; Slovenian Peter “Maximum G” Podlunsek – said to be among the favourites in Constanta, flying his Extra-300L in what will be his third Aero GP competition; Andy “Horsepower” Bickmore, flying his Sukhoi 29; Gerald Cooper, who finished 8th overall at the 2007 World Aerobatics Championships; and local entrant Ioan Postolache, who will be hoping to give the home crowd something to cheer for. Ioan is a former member of the Romanian National Aerobatic Team.

The AERO GP Constanta is be the third event in the series, following previous competitions in Slovenia in 2005 and the Grand Prix of Malta in 2006.
