Aerobility launches fully funded Aspire-Ability for young disabled aviators

UK flying charity Aerobility has launched a new fully funded initiative aimed at inspiring the next generation of aviation professionals with disabilities. It’s called Aspire-Ability and applications now open.

Designed for young people aged 12 to 18 living with disabilities, Aspire-Ability is intended to “accelerate the aspirations of young aviators” and provide a structured introduction to careers across the aviation and aerospace sectors.

Aspire-Ability has four parts. It begins with a one-to-one virtual flight session with an instructor, allowing students to learn basic aircraft handling from home.

This is followed by a real-world flying experience at one of Aerobility’s UK bases, where participants take to the air in adapted aircraft.

The scheme includes behind-the-scenes visits to aviation or aerospace organisations, giving insight into the breadth of career opportunities. A bespoke careers talk led by industry professionals completes the programme, offering guidance and the chance to ask questions about pathways into the sector.

Aerobility highlights the importance of opening up the wider aviation ecosystem to young people with disabilities, noting that the industry can often appear “daunting, confusing, and even expensive”.

Aspire-Ability is flexible, with no fixed start or end dates, allowing participants to complete the four stages around their existing commitments. On completion, students receive a certificate recognising their achievement.

Aspire-Ability is funded by the UK Government, supporting Aerobility’s broader mission to make aviation accessible to all.
