Head-Up Displays (HUDs) are one of those things most of us associate with fast jets, heavy metal and the occasional business jet. They’re bright, clever, and usually come with eye-watering price tags that put them way beyond the reach of general aviation.
You’re still unlikely to find them fitted to your school’s training fleet, but the AeroDisplay HUD has been designed specifically with GA and business aircraft in mind. It weighs just over half a kg (1.25lb), fits neatly at the top of the windscreen in front of the pilot, and ties straight into your existing avionics. That means no extra sensors, no massive panel rework, and no six-figure budget.
So what does it do? In short, it brings the essentials of your Primary Flight Display—airspeed, altitude, flight path marker, navigation cues—into your forward field of view. Instead of glancing in and out of the panel, you can keep your eyes outside with the key numbers and guidance cues floating right where you’re looking.

AeroDisplay, through UK dealer Horizon Avionics told FLYER that the HUD makes for:
The system has already gained an FAA STC for the Cirrus series, and it’s designed to slot into most Part 23 fixed-wing and rotary aircraft. An optional Enhanced Vision System (EVS) adds a thermal camera feed onto the HUD, useful for night flying, smoke penetration, or special operations such as firefighting.
And the part that really matters: price. At $30,999, the aim is to bring HUD technology into the more expensive end of the GA world at a fraction of the cost of traditional airline-style systems.
As soon as we get to fly the HUD we’ll let you what we think, in the meantime, if you’d like to know more, email 📧 [email protected], at Horizon Avionics
