Gloucester-based Aeros Maintenance has launched a new fully funded B1.2 Engineer Training Pathway, aimed at opening access to aircraft engineering careers for aspiring engineers from a wide range of backgrounds.

The 39-month pathway combines fully funded B1.2 theoretical knowledge training and examinations with a salaried, full-time position, allowing candidates to develop practical, on-the-tools experience while training.

Participants will work under mentored supervision on a variety of aircraft types, gaining the real-world exposure required to progress toward B1.2 licence eligibility.

The programme has been designed to support school leavers, career changers and individuals already working in junior maintenance roles, both within and outside aviation, particularly those who may have previously believed that licensed aircraft engineering was financially or practically out of reach.

With the aviation industry facing a well-documented shortage of licensed B1.2 engineers, Aeros’ new pathway aims to build long-term engineering capability while creating a clear and supported route into the profession.

Tom Hay, Maintenance Base Manager at Aeros, said, “There is a real shortage of B1.2 licensed engineers across the industry, and we know that talent exists far beyond traditional entry routes. This pathway is about opening doors, combining proper training with paid, hands-on experience to develop the next generation of engineers.”

Aeros Maintenance looks after a fleet of Tecnam and Diamond aircraft that support its Flight Training Organisation and also takes in privately owned G registered aircraft, such as Piper and Cessna types.
