Andrewsfield Aviation Ltd has stopped flight operations from Andrewsfield Airfield in Essex with the closure described as being for the “foreseeable future”.
The airfield has a current NOTAM saying the runway is closed due to waterlogging and maintenance.
In a statement issued to students and members on 18 February seen by FLYER, Airfield Manager Mike Rowland said the Office, Clubhouse and Café will also shut until further notice.
Mike told FLYER, “Sadly, we cannot say anymore at this time. We are looking at all options.”
The company says it will work with students currently in training to help identify “suitable alternative options”, with instructors expected to contact individuals directly about next steps.
While flight operations by the company are to stop, club-based aircraft parking and hangarage will remain in place “for the time being”. The runway will be NOTAMed as closed, meaning it will operate as non-radio with none of the facilities normally provided by the company available.
The statement adds that any flights conducted will be entirely at the pilot’s own risk.
No further details have been provided about the reasons behind the decision. The airfield said it was unable to go into more detail at this stage but apologised for the inconvenience caused.
“Andrewsfield has always had a great reputation which is down to all our staff, members and friends,” the statement concluded.
