Nottingham City Airport – also known as Tollerton – could disappear under multiple housing projects within the next few years.

A second application for new homes at the airport site submitted last week joins an earlier one dating from December 2020 for housing, a primary school, a local centre and other infrastructure.

The airport sits to the east of Nottingham amid fields. Despite being part of the local green belt, Tollerton has a Neighbourhood Plan which sees a huge area being redeveloped.

The new application has now been validated by Rushcliffe Borough Council under application reference 24/00347/HYBRID.

It would result in the four runways 09/27 and 03/21, the Chocks Away cafe, air traffic control building being demolished. The licensed airports also has hangars, fuel and is the base for Sherwood Flying Club.

However, neither of the two applications is going anywhere for the time being. The Council has told developers it cannot determine either application until a Supplementary Planning Document – a masterplan – is in place. Planning officers are working with the landowners on the masterplan.
