ATSOCAS education begins

Almost every visitor to Aero Expo at High Wycombe last weekend will have left with a CD from the CAA stand aimed at explaining to pilots, air traffic controllers and others how the new ATSOCAS system (Air Traffic Control Services Outside Controlled Airspace) will work when it is introduced next March.

If you didn’t pick one of the CDs up last weekend, there will still plenty of opportunity to find out how to use the new services. The information is available now on the ASI (Airspace & Safety Initiative) website at www.airspacesafety.com/content/ATSOCAS.asp and the CD which was being handed out at Aero Expo will also be posted out to all pilots. Commercial pilots (along with air traffic controllers and Flight Information Service Officers) will be receving it shortly; PPLs will receive it through the post over the winter.

If you’re still hungry for information, the CAP referring to the changes is available from the CAA website at www.caa.co.uk/publications.
