Blackpool International Airport "likely to close"

Blackpool International Airport has announced it is likely to close, unless a sale agreement is reached by 7 October. In this event, the last commercial flights are expected to take place on 15 October.
A statement from the airport explained, “The airport operations have been making a loss for a number of years and we are currently exploring a number of options in an attempt to secure the future of the airport.”
The airport apologised and advised any affected passengers to contact their airline to confirm travel arrangements.
Currently it’s understood that the airfield will continue to operate as a unlicenced airfield and the change will have little to no effect on GA organisations based there.
James, a representative from Blackpool-based flying school ANT explained to FLYER, “It shouldn’t affect us. Whether the airfield remains licenced or not, we’ll continue operating as normal. This is a decision that will affect the ‘bigger boys’, the main impact is for airline Jet2, but we’ll continue as normal.”
