Doncaster Sheffield Airport reopens for Aerobility flights

Doncaster Sheffield Airport is inching towards fully reopening with a number of General Aviation flights – including four days working with Aerobility to fly up to 50 people with disabilities.

Aerobility will operate two adapted light aircraft between 26-29 May from the airport. The charity will be offering disabled people the chance to go up in the aircraft for short flights around the skies of South Yorkshire.

Christian Foster, Director at FlyDoncaster, said, “This is such a special and important opportunity to bring back adapted flights to Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

“It’s fantastic to give anybody with a disability – who may have an interest in aviation or just want to see their local area from a new perspective – a chance to experience the wonder of flying.”

Aerobility’s Mike Miller-Smith added, “We’re thrilled to be flying from Doncaster Sheffield Airport. It’s so crucial to be able to offer opportunities for people with disabilities such as this right across the country.”

Doncaster Sheffield Airport to reopen… when?

The airport is operated by FlyDoncaster who said, “Our experienced team is working tirelessly to put in place everything needed to reopen the airport as soon as possible. While some General Aviation flight movements are already happening, we expect the volume of freight and cargo flights to increase from 2027 and passenger flights to commence in winter 2027/28.”

FlyDoncaster is also making progress with its Airspace Change Proposal to recertify the airspace around the airport. . The ACP has reached Stage 3 which involves engaging with stakeholders.

Christian Foster, Doncaster Sheffield Airport said: “We are undertaking an expedited process alongside our highly experienced team and our specialist consultants, so that we can realise the benefits of a reopened Doncaster Sheffield Airport as soon as possible and start delivering a positive impact for the local economy.”
