Dundee Airport will be operated by Highlands And Islands Airports Limited (<a href=”http://www.hial.co.uk” target=”_blank”>HIAL</a as of September this year.
The company is already saying that it hopes to be able to extend the range of commercial routes available from the airport, and is expecting to be able to turn round the £1.5 m annual operating loss. Dundee had been the only council-run facility of its kind in Scotland.
The danger is, of course, that in bringing more commercial flights into Dundee, HIAL may begin to restrict the operation of light aviation at the airport. Tayside Aviation, which is based at the airport, tells us that although it has asked for a meeting with the managing director of HIAL, a date has not yet been fixed.
There had been speculation about the future of Dundee for some time: see our story <a href=”newsfeed.php?artnum=313″>here</a>.
