Duxford Safety Day, 12 April 2014

The annual Duxford Safety Day has been announced, taking place on Saturday 12 April at Duxford Airfield. The day will include presentations, advice and informal conversation with the experts from CAA, NATS, the Met Office and other key organisations.
NATS Infringements and Farnborough LARS will run a joint presentation on the subject of airspace infringements and how to avoid them. Visitors will be able to discuss any questions they may have on a one to one at the table top presentations’
There will also be a presentation from representatives from D&D (Distress & Diversion). As well as making the GA community aware of what D&D can offer, the presentation will also help GA pilots to understand what D&D need from them. The presentation is designed to reduce the stresses pilots are under when they suffer emergencies or disorientation.
The CAA will be represented by Chris Finnigan, Manager GA Flight Ops, who will look at the importance of improving pilot pre-flight planning to help reduce the number of GA aircraft flying through parachute drop zones and glider sites, military danger areas etc. The presentation will also include a brief on the likely increase in the amount of military flying in the UK that will result from the drawdown of forces from Afghanistan and the re-integration by fleet type of mil a/c to different parts of the UK. The CAA table top presentation will also be able discuss the creation of a GA Unit within the CAA – important for private pilots to understand how they will be regulating the GA sector going forward.
Finally, Nils Jamieson from GASCo will present on Practical Threat & Error Management for GA Pilots.
There will be half-price landing fees for those who fly in. Admission is £5. If you are arriving by air, please note that landing slots are limited and booking is essential. For PPR and a briefing call 01223 833376.
