easyJet announced at Pilot Careers Live in London on 18 April that the the company needs 1,000 new pilots over the next five years.
To meet that demands, the airline has added a new training route: 500 of those pilots will train for an Airline Transport Pilots Licence (ATPL) with Skyborne Airline Academy.
The other 500 pilots will come through easyJet’s existing training partner, CAE, where they train on the Multi Pilot Licence (MPL) route.
Captain Kate West, Training Manager for Future Pilots at easyJet, made the announcement at the start of a seminar about easyJet’s training programme at Pilot Careers Live.

Skyborne said, “As an official UK integrated ATPL partner for easyJet, we’re proud to offer a brand new fast-track pathway to the easyJet flight deck — a pathway that includes your Airbus A320 Type Rating, plus the opportunity to receive a conditional offer from easyJet before you even begin training.
“The easyJet FlightCrew Futures Programme is designed for individuals with little or no previous flying experience, providing a direct and structured route to becoming a future easyJet pilot.”
Both the MPL and ATPL courses are self-funded. However, once through selection cadets are offered a job when they graduate and are mentored by easyJet throughout the training.
Training for the easyJet Flightcrew Futures programme will be delivered across Skyborne’s facilities in Gloucestershire and Bournemouth in the UK, and Vero Beach, Florida, in the US, with trainees progressing through ground school, flight training and Airline Pilot Standards Multi-Crew Cooperation (APS MCC) before joining easyJet.
