Evektor flies the SuperCobra

Czech aircraft manufacturer Evektor has announced the maiden flight of its SuperCobra four-seat single. The aircraft is powered by a Lycoming IO-580A1B engine, producing 315 hp. It is of all-metal construction, and has retractable landing gear. It made two flights, each of 30 minutes duration, and was reported to have handled superbly.

“It’s a real predator in the sky,” said test pilot Josef Charvat. “I’m very impressed with the SuperCobra’s amazing performance – its rate of climb and high cruise speed.”

The SuperCobra offers a top cruise speed of 175 kt, a range of 1,000 nm and a useful load of 1,260 lb. Glass cockpit and state-of-the-art avionics will be fitted as standard. It is claimed to have the widest cockpit in its class, and – according to Evektor chairman Jaroslav Ruzicka – is “a unique fusion of power, timeless design, elegance and superior cabin comfort.”

The SuperCobra’s timescale now is for a EASA / FAA certification in early 2008, with first deliveries shortly thereafter.

The company is also in the process of certifying the 200 hp VUT100 Cobra, and is working on a ‘new generation utility twin turboprop’, the EV-55 Outback.
