AERO 2026: Around the Halls in 60 Seconds

Europe’s top General Aviation show, AERO, held annually at Messe Friedrichshafen in southern Germany, is full of wonderful (and some weird) aircraft and accessories. Here’s our quick whizz around the eight halls

Packing two Rotax 916iS engines, the four seat Pioneer 800 is new from Alpi Aviation.
The first JMB Stampe for the UK heading to UK agent Stampe Aircraft UK made its debut at AERO. That colour scheme is authentic, and belonged to a real Stampe that was impressed into RAF service after two Belgian pilots, Michel Donney and Léon Divoy, famously used the aircraft to flee Belgium on July 5, 1941 , making a three hour flight to England.
Elixir Aircraft revealed the Elixir +. Primarily to satisfy the American market, the new version has a max take-off weight of 700kg, increased wingspan with winglets and EFIS back-upcuffed leading edges, plus Garmin GI-275, revised undercarriage and exhaust system.
Still the best looking out of the various Junkers two-seaters, the A50 Heritage, finished here in a spectacular bright orange. Powered by a 124hp seven cylinder Werner Scarlett 7U radial engine, it has cruise speed of 84kt which is plenty for an open cockpit aeroplane

New agents Direct Fly UK were at AERO to see their Alto NG which will be at the weekend's Popham Microlight Fair and then go into the BMAA approval process
Promecc Terr1ne
Promecc is an Italian maker but that doesn't explain why they called their latest aircraft Terr1ne. It's a development of a previous aircraft, the Freccia, and is claimed to have a max cruise speed of 390km/h - that's 210kt
Evocopter ClassiX
A microlight helicopter? Yes, it's the Evocopter ClassiX, which has been type certified by the German authority. It's powered by a 160hp Lycoming O-360, has a payload of 233kg and a max cruise speed of 80kt

Amid all the hotships was this simple and straightforward Savannah S from Italian maker ICP, available as a 450kg factory-built or 600kg kitplane. Back to basics!
Porta Air Services Been Bonanza
The Beechcraft Bonanza may no longer be in production but German company Porta Air Service is offering a 'Beyond Factory New' service. This 1987 F33A is immaculate with all new interior including modern Garmin glass cockpit, overhauled Continental IO-520-BB, high performance MTV-9 prop, tip tanks, LED lighting and TKS ice protection.
