First European view of Garmin's G3X Touch

Following its launch at Sun ‘n Fun last week, here was the chance for a European audience to gets it first view of the new G3X Touch from Garmin. With its 10in, high resolution display featuring multiple MFD, PFD and engine information configurations on a single display.
The G3X Touch displays VFR Sectionals and IFR Enroute Charts, which provide pertinent information in-flight while on an IFR or VFR flight plan. A version of G3X Touch also includes SiriusXM Aviation Weather and Radio capability, which allows pilots to receive NEXRAD, METARs, TAFs, TFRs, winds aloft, and more. SiriusXM Satellite Radio is also accessible via G3X Touch; both weather and audio capabilities require purchase of a subscription from SiriusXM Satellite Radio Inc. The new GDL 39R (remotely mounted ADS-B receiver) is also compatible with G3X Touch and offers pilots an excellent solution to display ADS-B traffic and subscription-free weather.
The Touch also interfaces with Garmin’s experimental autopilot, which gives pilots autopilot
control through the touchscreen interface, while still supporting the optional, stand-alone GMC 305 autopilot control panel. Additional features include infrared touchscreen technology, which means you’ll be able to use it even if you’re wearing gloves; worldwide charting; an easy upgrade from the G3X; video input for the VIRB and other cameras; touchscreen VIRB control; and the ability to use it as either a single or dual screen. It can also be integrated with the 225/GNC 255 Nov/com system. The price is $6,241 including SDS, GP3 receiver and ASARI.
Garmin also took the opportunity to announce a number of other new products, including an independent AOA system for $1640, a Radar altimeter system for VFR helicopters and small aeroplanes for $11,995, and Garmin’s Pilot Global system, supported by Jeppesen charts, which was previously only available in the USA be which now be used internationally.
