Fly-in to promote flexwing microlight flying

Fly the Tyne

A new fly-in in July to promote flexwing microlight flying will take place at Darley Moor Airfield on 16 July.

Flexwing (also known as ‘weight-shift’) aircraft are what many pilots think are the original microlights, with minimal cockpit and weather protection, and flown by manipulating the Rogallo wing.

The Flexwing Fly-In 2022 is billed as ‘The Inaugural Flexwing Fly-In’. “To me this shows that the concept of a dedicated UK event for powered flexwing aircraft of all types and weights is seen to have potential,” said Andy Oliver, organiser of the event. “Major salute to Mark Hilton and the team at Darley Moor for their support.”

Airways Air Sports and Micro Maintenance based at Darley Moor will convert a hanger into an exhibition hall filled with leading UK importers and manufacturers including Cumbria Aviation with the new Delta 500 flexwing microlight, Exodus, Flylight, GS Aviation, Micro Avionics and the BMAA. Microlight adventurer Brian Milton will also be attending to give a talk.

Notes for visiting pilots covering facilities, PPR, landing/camping fees etc) will be published two weeks in advance.

“The event is part of the initiative by The Flexwing Adventurers to support a Flexwing Renaissance in UK,” said Andy.
