A planning enquiry into the future of Kemble Airfield in Gloucestershire opened – and closed – today, with effective victory for the airfield.
Cotswold District Council had served enforcement notices on the airfield and its occupants (as reported here) but four hours into the planned four-day enquiry it withdrew the notices, leaving the airfield free to continue operating as previously.
Sources say that there were some technical irregularities in the council’s case, which led to their withdrawal of the notice.
An airfield spokesman described the situation as ‘back to square one’, and couldn’t preclude the possibility that the council would try again. However, it is reported that Kemble airfield and Cotswold District Council and North Wilts District Council are now in talks to try to find a way forward which would be acceptable to both sides.
