London Assembly seeks views on helicopter noise

Citing ‘anecdotal evidence’ that helicopter traffic and noise has increased in recent years, the London Assembly’s Environment Committee is inviting the public to submit evidence to an investigation it is conducting. The specific issues to be investigated are:

– routes used;
– any measures be taken to control traffic and noise;
– whether improvements can be made to traffic management;
– types of helicopter used and their ‘noise performance’;
– the effectiveness of the existing policies in Mayor Ken Livingstone’s Noise Strategy

There is to be a meeting on the subject, which will be open to the public, at City Hall on 13 July. Darran Johnson, who is leading the investigation, says “Although there are doubtless those who love the sound of helicopters, there are many people whose lives are blighted by such noise. We need to determine… what, if anything, can be done to tackle it.”

Anyone who wishes to contribute to the committee’s investigation should e-mail Assistant Scrutiny Manager Roger Davies, <a href=’mailto:[email protected]’ target=’_blank’>[email protected] </a> no later than 16 June.
