London Executive Aviation (LEA), the UK’s largest executive aircraft charter operator, has announced that it is to be the first such organisation to sign up for the BBGA (British Business and General Aviation Association) Carbon Balancing Scheme.
The BBGA scheme, which was launched earlier this year, uses only ‘independently certified offsetting projects’; at its launch the BBGA promised that ‘all projects will either be UN certified or meet the “Gold Standard”, increasingly recognised as the benchmark for offsetting.” The methods for offsetting include fuel-based or technology-based offsets, as well as the more traditional forestry-based schemes. The BBGA has the lofty aim of making ‘the entire sector carbon neutral.’
London Executive Aviation will now offer its clients to chance to balance the carbon emissions produced by their flights through the BBGA scheme.
