Lundy Sunday Fly-in moves 2026 date to beat weather

Next year’s Lundy Sunday Fly-in is moving its date in the hope that the weather will be more suitable.

The popular event on the Isle of Lundy off the North Devon coast will be held on Sunday, 5 July 2026.

“Another advantage of the date change is that we will have room to have another stab at it if things do go against us,” said organiser Pete White of the Bodmin based Cornwall Flying Club.

“I already have several aircraft booked in, including the star of the show Auster 5 G-AJXC flown by Robin Helliar–Symons from White Waltham,” continued Pete.

“This aircraft operated from Lundy post-war with an Auster Autocrat and supplied the island with goods and people until the Autocrat ditched in the sea with no loss of life but the Ministry of Aviation stopped the service.

“The Auster 5 G-AJXC has been trying to return to the island for a Lundy Sunday event. It [will be] its first visit since the 1950s, fingers crossed.”

To join the fly-in, email Pete with the following details:

  • Name
  • Aircraft Registration
  • Aircraft type
  • Email
  • Base
  • Mobile number
  • Camping Yes/No and POB.

Pete added, “If you have never flown into a Lundy Sunday event before I have to give you a verbal brief to satisfy the island’s criteria. After this I will email a written 2026 brief when it is available.”
