Mooney cuts workforce

Texas-based Mooney Airplane Company has cut up to 80 of its workforce. Citing the downturn of 28% experienced by single-engine piston sales in the first quarter of 2008 (as revealed in the official GAMA figures), Mooney said that it would also be reducing its production targets from eight a month to five a month for the rest of the year.

“These decisions will not have an adverse effect on the quality or safety of our products, nor will they delay scheduled aircraft deliveries,” said Mooney CEO Dennis Ferguson. “They were made to create corporate resiliency in the international market. We are strengthening our business in Europe, South America and Australia, where Mooney’s high performance, efficiency and pricing are especially appealing.”

Ferguson added “The Mooney name has earned its place in the distinguished company of aviation legends. Our commitment is to continue the Mooney story.”
