North Weald Aerodrome is a wonderful, busy, unlicensed airfield with lots of interesting aircraft and businesses but it has one problem: it’s almost adjacent to London Stansted Airport.
In fact, North Weald Aerodrome is situated:
- In very close proximity to the Stansted Class D Control Zone (CTR)
- Underneath the Class D Stansted Control Area 2 (CTA-2)
- Within the Class G Stansted Transponder Mandatory Zone 2 (TMZ-2).
That brings plenty of opportunity for airspace infringements.
In an effort to bring down the numbers of infringements and the subsequent impact on other flights, an Aeronautical Information Circular (AIC) has been released to help pilots understand the flight procedures and airspace around North Weald Aerodrome.
It’s PINK (for safety related matters) AIC P 127/2025 and published in the latest release of Aeronautical Information Circulars & AIP Supplements. Click here to download it.
