The campaign to save Nottingham City Airport – aka Tollerton – comes to a head this week with a protest on Friday at the county council’s HQ.

The protest will be outside County Hall, Loughborough Road, Nottingham from 10.30am, led by Sarah Deacon of the Save Nottingham City Airport campaign group.

They will be calling for the council not to sell off the airport land it still owns, meaning the proposed housing development could not go ahead.

In addition, campaigners are demanding councillors:

  • Save this asset for future generations
  • Preserve the STEM skills and careers it provides
  • Safeguard this life-saving facility
  • Protect the leisure and recreation that the site provides to so many people across Notts and beyond
  • Ensure Notts isn’t bypassed by the Advanced Air Mobility revolution

In addition, the closing deadline for comments on the Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan is this Friday, 25 April.

Sarah Deacon said, “You can tell the Planning Inspector why you believe ‘Policy 31’ which contains the airfield should be removed from its allocation for housing.”

Three local councils, Broxtowe Borough, Nottingham City and Rushcliffe have prepared the Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan, “which will set out policies to secure sustainable growth up to 2041”.

The Councils previously consulted in 2024 but there have been key changes, notably to the National Planning Policy Framework.

Confusingly, comments made in a previous consultation will not be carried forward unless the commentator specifically agrees to an option on the questionnaire.
