Remember the Volocopter? The strange two-seat helicopter-like aircraft with a ring of small electrically-driven propellers above the cabin?
The German company went bust in early 2025, and was acquired by Diamond Aircraft in March 2025 since when it has kept its head down while adapting to its new situation.
Now, the new Volocopter has just announced it is “accelerating its research, development, and production for the VoloCity and VoloXPro” using Diamond’s expertise. Both the VoloCity and VoloXPro are based on Volocopter’s existing flying prototype, the 2X.

Volocopter VoloCity, intended as urban air transport
Volocopter is pushing ahead with VoloXPro for the Light Sports eVTOL segment with certification targetted for the end of 2026. In addition, Volocopter says the VoloCity, intended as ‘urban, electrically powered passenger transport’ will receive its EASA certification in 2027.
To help both targets happen, Volocopter is setting up a ‘sandbox’ later this year at its base in Bruchsal, Germany. A sandbox is an isolated test environment where realistic flight operations for the VoloCity and VoloXPro can be simulated.
David Bausek, CEO of Volocopter, said, “The successful completion of the realignment phase has led to further improvements in our products. To effectively manage our teams during the delivery of parts and components, we will use the tool of short-term work as well as other flexible organizational instruments. However, this does not change our development and certification goals.”
