Weekend incidents

A woman pilot was taken to hospital yesterday (Sunday) morning after the aircraft she was flying came down in a field at Oving, near Chichester. According to the Portsmouth.co.uk website, the aircraft had taken off from Goodwood 15 minutes before the accident. She had been flying about Arundel when the aircraft ‘developed engine trouble’.

The pilot’s Mayday was picked up by a passing helicopter which happened to have a nurse on board; the helicopter was able to land next to the crashed aircraft. Although taken to hospital, the pilot was able to walk out later in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, in Scotland on Friday, a C172 made a precautionary landing on Elmwood Golf Course near Fife after apparently suffering engine problems.

The aircraft was undamaged, as was the pilot, although there were wheel marks for ‘some 100 metres’ up the 17th fairway.
