Rumours that the sale of Gloucestershire Airport to an Anglo-Indian startup company is in trouble have been aired in an article on business news website Punchline-Gloucester.com
Reporters Simon Hacker and Mark Owen write that sources close to the sale, which was due to have been signed off at the end of November, have said the acquisition is in crisis due to the aligned buyer allegedly losing its investment source for the planned £30m takeover.
“Horizon Aero Group, the company now known to be behind the takeover, has refuted assertions that the process is subject to delay,” according to the report and said that “nothing has changed”.
The website goes on to say that a key meeting between all parties was due to progress sale completion on 28 November in Gloucester, but it is believed that the summit failed to go ahead.
The deal is especially important to Gloucester City Council, one of the joint owners of the airport with nearby Cheltenham Borough Council. BBC News is reporting that Gloucester City Council is seeking a £12.5m- £17.5m bailout from central government to avoid bankruptcy.
Cllr Jeremy Hilton, Leader of Gloucester City Council, told Punchline, “We are still in the period of due diligence and I am reasonably confident that we will get this over the line. These things take time and anyone who has every bought a property of this nature will tell you is a lot more complicated than buying and selling a house.”
FLYER also approached the City Council and were told, ““The due diligence process is ongoing, as the sale process continues.”
More than 2,000 people are believed to be employed at businesses based at the airport, including many aviation related companies.
