16 scholarships for summer gliding courses available

Sixteen (16) scholarships are available for week-long gliding courses for young people between the ages of 16 and 23 who have an interest in a career in military aviation.

Each scholarships is worth £1,000. The courses are run this summer and applications are open right now.

The schiolarships are offered by the Fleet Air Arm Officers Association’s Aviation Scholarship Trust.

“We still have a number of scholarships to award which means that applicants have a high chance of success this year,” said Terry Martin who is the coordinator for the Trust.

“However they must meet some criteria in order to pass through initial selection.”

The main criteria are:

• Age between 16 and 23
• UK citizenship  (Passport ID required)
• Expressed interest in a career in the Fleet Air Arm, RAF or Army Air Corps
• No previous gliding experience
• Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) with grades of 7 or above, must include Maths and English Language

There are two courses planned for 2026, one at the Midland Gliding Club (Shropshire) in July, and the other at the Portsmouth Naval Gliding Club (Hampshire) in August. Because time is short, interested parties should contact Terry direct, on [email protected] as soon as possible.
