French aircraft manufacturer Aura Aero has strengthened its push into low-carbon aviation by acquiring key assets from fellow French electric propulsion specialist VoltAero.
The deal brings together two of Europe’s more ambitious names in hybrid-electric flight and gives Toulouse-based Aura access to VoltAero’s technology, patents, facilities and engineering know-how — including the Cassio S flying demonstrator, which has logged more than 270 flights since 2019.
The Cassio S, based on a Cessna Skymaster airframe, has flown around 15,500 miles in testing and provides a ready-made bank of real-world data.

Aura says the acquisition will feed directly into several of its own projects, including the Integral trainer, the ERA 19-seat hybrid-electric regional aircraft, and the company’s ENBATA drone programme. The company will also take over VoltAero’s Rochefort base, a 25,000sqft facility with direct runway access, which will now serve as an additional test and prototyping hub.
Aura Aeroco-founder and president Jérémy Caussade described the purchase as “a catalyst for industrial, technological and human growth,” adding that it strengthens the company’s ambition to become one of the world leaders in next-generation aviation.
