London Biggin Hill Airport has completed resurfacing its main runway at a cost running into ‘eight figures’.
The project, carried out over the summer, has delivered a fully resurfaced and grooved runway alongside new centreline and LED approach lighting. The upgrades are intended to improve visual cues for pilots and enhance runway durability.
In addition to the physical works, the airport has introduced a 24-hour AUTO-METAR service, providing continuous live weather information, and upgraded its Instrument Runway Visual Range (IRVR) system to deliver more accurate visibility data for arriving crews.
Robert Walters, Commercial Director at the airport, said the improvements are designed to support modern business aviation operations and reinforce the airport’s role as a reliable point of entry to London, particularly during periods of challenging weather or high traffic demand.
