BN to assemble Cirrus on the IOW

Bembridge based Britten-Norman has agreed a deal with Cirrus Aircraft to provide final re-assembly of SR20 and SR22 aircraft on the Isle of Wight for delivery to European customers. The recently formed Aero Composites arm of Britten-Norman is orchestrating the project. Britten-Norman Group Executive Chief William Hynett said ‘We have already processed the first pilot plane of this joint venture and everything in the re-assembly process worked perfectly. We will begin customer aircraft assemblies commencing in January of 2006 and are projecting 100 planes for the first year.’
Aero Composites is comprised of a specially selected, highly specialised team of experts who have undergone extensive and comprehensive training at Cirrus. Each European bound aircraft will be fully assembled in the USA and will be issued with a US Certificate of Airworthiness. The airframes will then be partially disassembled and crated in specially-designed shipping containers, before being sent to the Isle of Wight .

With a history dating back over 40 years Britten-Norman is the UK’s only commercial aircraft manufacturer, producing the famous Islander , Trislander and Defender 4000.
