The pilot training will be with Gloucester-based Castle Air. It is a structured cadet scheme that takes you from zero flight time through to a professional SAR pilot.

A statement from Bristow said, “We are looking for the next generation of pilots to keep our UK Search and Rescue fleet flying high.

“If you’re interested in learning how to become a Search and Rescue pilot and taking control of an S-92, AW139 or AW189 on lifesaving missions across the UK, then keep scrolling…

“Our UK cadet scheme, run with Castle Air, offers successful applicants a sponsored route to becoming a fully-fledged helicopter pilot, with a long and rewarding career on offer.”

To apply you will need a minimum of five GCSEs or equivalent including Maths and English at grade C or higher.

Applicants must be over 18, have the right to live and work in the UK and be fluent in written and spoken English.

Applicants must hold a valid Class 1 UK Flight Crew Medical Certificate prior to the commencement of the Commercial phase of the course.

The training is sponsored but applicants will have to support their own living costs during the course.

Successful applicants will embark on a 24-month course primarily based at Gloucester Airport, UK, with possible elements in Florida. You’ll be expected to relocate if necessary and, after the training, will be deployed to one of the UK’s network of SAR bases.

If you’re successful in reaching the next phase of this process, the selection days, at Castle Air, are on 25t & 26 September 2025. The course commences on 6 October 2025.

Castle Air added, “You’ll work towards both UK CAA and EASA licences, preparing for one of the most rewarding and challenging careers in aviation.”
