CAA produces 'flip chart' R/T guide

The CAA has unveiled a new quick reference guide for radio procedures. Promising to be ‘easy to use’, the guide is available as both a printed checklist format and in an online interactive version.

It provides details of the exact phraseology to be used by pilots throughout all stages of a flight – from start-up to approach and landing. A separate section deals with emergency communications. It is treated as a supplement to the official R/T guide, CAP 413, but the CAA says that it provides “the information in a more user-friendly way and gives background explanations to some of the more common situations.”

When you click on the link (<a href=’http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CAP413Supplement.pdf’ target=’_blank’>here</a>) you might be disappointed to discover that currently the guide is aimed at commercial pilots; however, the CAA promises us that it is working on a GA version (and one for airside drivers).
