Concern over Europa crash

The PFA has issued an alert following the fatal crash of a Europa earlier this month. The two occupants of aircraft were killed in the accident.

Althugh the AAIB is investigating the incident – a Special Bulletin is expected in the next week or two – initial findings seem to suggest that tailplane flutter may have been the cause of an in-flight break up.

As a result, the PFA has issued two Airworthiness Information documents for Europa Classic and Europa XS aircraft. The most recent of these lists contains six items which require checking ‘before next flight and at every subsequent 10 flying hours’. You can read the documents here.

The document ends with the warning that if any of the inspection requirements are not satisfied, then DO NOT FLY the aircraft.

We extend our sympathies to the families and friends of the two pilots who died in the accident.
