Kemble Air Day announced

Sunday 17 June has been named as the day for this year’s Kemble Air Day. Kemble, of course, has gained prominence over the past few years as the new home of the (now defunct) PFA Rally (latterly ‘Flying for Fun’), and its Air Day has grown with it.

The event will see a new ‘exciting’ partnership between Kemble and the recently formed Royal Air Force Events Team.

The themes for this year’s event will be the ‘Centenary of Frank Whittle’ and ’70 years of British Jet Aviation’ which will celebrate Frank Whittle’s genius in inventing and developing the jet engine. The Air Day will tell the story of the British jet engine from the Gloster Meteor right through to the state of the art modern jet fighters of today’s potent Royal Air Force.

Organsier Glen Moreman, points out that “Kemble Air Day has developed over the last decade into a major Air Show which still manages to retain its personal feel. The public are able to get close and really feel part of the action.” As well as the flying action there are various displays, trade stands, food and the shopping village.

You may note that 17 June is Fathers Day – if you’re a father maybe you should start dropping hints?
