It’s one of the busiest pieces of GA airspace in Europe, it contains four major international airports and its design threads large amounts of GA traffic through height-limited corridors. But it doesn’t have a LARS (Lower Airspace Radar Service).
It is expected that NATS will shortly confirm its commitment to introducing such a service as soon as practicably possible. The new service, which will create new radar-qualified ATCO positions, is expected to be based at Farnborough and to provide radar based information to GA traffic in the London area. The area is expected to extend vertically to FL100 or to the base of controlled airspace.
