Flying a flex-wing microlight was heaven for Claire Lomas

Wanafly Airsports is holding a very special fly-in at Deenethorpe Aerodrome, near Corby, on 16-17 August 2025. It’s in memory of Claire Lomas MBE who died almost a year ago.

Claire became a paraplegic after breaking her back in a horse riding accident but that didn’t stop her living life to the full – including learning to fly a flex-wing microlight.

In Claire’s own words, “I have found a lot of things that I am able to do, flying being one of them, and I love the fact that I can get out of the wheelchair and can be like any other pilot – and also the freedom it gives me.”

Wanafly Airsports said, “Before Claire died she had raised £952,000 for the Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation. A group of her family and friends are going to keep Claire’s challenge alive and we hope to hit her dream target of £1,000,000 one day!

“So every little helps! Please do come and join in – ALL are welcome by boat, bike, car or aircraft, please make our day!”

There’ll be food available and all landing fees will go towards the day.

If you plan to fly-in, please email [email protected] with your aircraft type, registration, which day and approximate time. Call 07794 799916 if you have any questions.
