Old Sarum change of management

Negotiations are currently under way over the management of Old Sarum Flying Club, based at Old Sarum airfield near Salisbury in Wiltshire.

The news comes after the airfield’s leasholder, Blanefield Property Company Ltd, announced that it would not renew the lease on the airfield, and under which the Flying Club was running the field. A court battle followed and – after an appeal – the situation has been settled.

Old Sarum Flying Club will remain on the field, and will operate as normal, while the running of the airfield will be handed over to an independent concern.

The club’s commercial manager Simon Birt, told the Salisbury Journal “From my understanding, Blanefield wish to seriously invest in the site and make it an attractive tourist and recreation venue.”

This week the Salisbury District Council has agreed that the airfield should be a Conservation Area, which restricts the amount of new development which can take place there and opens up the possibility of regeneration of some of the existing historic buildings such as hangars, etc.
