Thailand stages first pylon air race

+VIDEO The first pylon air race to be staged in Thailand proved to be a success over last weekend. Air Race 1 staged its latest event at U-Tapao Airport and had thousands of spectators turn up to watch as multiple aircraft raced each other just as they do at the famous Reno Air Races.

Justin Phillipson flying a Condor Shoestring F1 race aircraft called No Strings Attached was the overall winner by just six one-hundredths of a second (0.06s) ahead of Phillip Goforth of Knotty Girl in a photo finish.

French pilot, Stanislas Damiron, flew fellow racer Des Hart’s Chaos Theory was third followed closely by favourite Steve Temple in Madness.

“This event was a test event to demonstrate the sport to the Thai people and to ensure that the facilities and professional expertise will be in place for next year’s Air Race 1 World Cup at the same venue,” said the race organisers.
