Would you like to be one of the first pilots to fly one of the new breed of electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft (eVTOLs)? Volocopter has just received approval as an Approved Training Organisation (ATO).

Certification as an ATO allows Volocopter to train pilots for its future products. The German company received approval from the Luftfahrtbundesamt (German CAA) and will now finalise the training programme.

Volocopter expects to have the commercial launch of its electric air taxis later this year, under newly published EASA regulations applicable to the operation and pilot licensing of electric air taxis.

“This is another substantial milestone on the way to bring electric air taxis to cities around the world,” said Oliver Reinhardt, Chief Risk and Certification Officer of Volocopter.

It follows February’s announcement that Volocopter has received its Production Organisation Approval (POA) for the VoloCity aircraft.

Under EASA’s SC-VTOL (Special Condition VTOL) Enhanced certification category, the VoloCity will become the first commercial eVTOL.
