Eight drone scholarships launched by The Air League

Air League drone scholarships

Eight scholarships to learn to fly drones professionally are available from The Air League, a leading aviation and aerospace charity.

The aim is to give young people a head start in this new high-growth sector and will be run with Eagle Eye Innovations.

Successful candidates who complete the scholarship will receive an A2 Certificate of Competency which allows an operator to fly drones close to people and in more challenging locations such as built-up areas.

The scholarship will pave the way for more advanced RPAS roles, and also open doors to various sectors like aerial photography, videography, surveying, inspection services, agriculture, and more.

It comes as the use of drone technology expands rapidly across the UK with drone specialists being heavily utilised not just in the military but increasingly in policing, and cultural events such as the Coronation earlier this month.

Applications are now open and will close on 11 June, with the course taking place on 29 August at Beeches Farm Airstrip in Newark. It includes full board and accommodation.

The scholarship is open to anyone interested in a career in aviation, particularly those with a keen interest in drones and the RPAS sector, and who is 18 or over by 18 August 2023, a UK citizen, and an Air League Member.

You can become an Air League member by signing up for individual membership on the charity’s website.

Ian Morrison, CEO of Air League said, “The Air League is always looking for innovative ways it can widen access to careers in aviation. Our drone scholarship provides the perfect combination of providing valuable aviation experience, whilst also offering transferable skills using cutting-edge technology.

“Drones are now used in an increasingly wide range of settings – from the military, to policing, to arts & entertainment. This really underpins the value that aviation skills can bestow upon young people, by preparing them for many different career possibilities.”

Tim Mitchell, Head of Academy at Eagle Eye Innovations, added, “This certification provides a strong foundation and unlocks diverse opportunities for future advancement.”
