First production version of Great Lakes biplane

Waco Classic Aircraft Corporation has announced its first production version of the Great Lakes 2T-1A-2.
According to the team at Waco, the first flight test of the fully aerobatic biplane was successful apart from the discovery of a faulty alternator.
Waco acquired the Great Lakes type certificate in September 2011. With a metal frame and aluminium sidewalls, its design and construction process is similar to Waco’s larger YMF-5D, an aircraft flown by FLYER in the March 2013 issue. According to Waco President Pete Bowers, the Great Lakes is smaller, less expensive, and features simpler avionics and systems than the YMF-5D model. The aircraft is powered by a 180hp Lycoming AEIO-360 engine with inverted oil and fuel systems and can withstand +5.4 and -4.0 G. The base price is $245,250.
Three customer aircraft are currently in production. Waco hopes to deliver the first Great Lakes in the next three months and plans to produce one aeroplane per month after the initial delivery.
